Establishing and Testing a Connection

Connect to the Dell WYSE 3000 via Serial Port

1.
Connect the host computer to the Dell
device's serial port using an
appropriate serial-serial or serial-USB
cable.

Open a command prompt window on
the computer, and type "powershell".

Identify your computer's serial port
names by typing the following (at
right):

In this guide, the screenshot at right
shows "COM3" as an available port.

Type the following two commands to
open the port, replacing "COM3" with
your computer's port name as
appropriate:

On the Dell device, repeat the
procedure for opening a port, but
ensure that the correct name is used by
utilizing the "getportnames() command
again. See right for the command
sequence:

To verify that a connection has been
established, on either the computer or
the Dell device, type the following:

[System.IO.Ports.SerialPort]::getportnames()
$port= new-Object System.IO.Ports.SerialPort
COM3, 9600, None, 8, one
$port.open()
powershell
[System.IO.Ports.SerialPort]::getportnames()
$port= new-Object System.IO.Ports.SerialPort
