Configuring N Port Virtualization
Enabling the Fibre Channel Port License
This section explains how to enable the licensing for FC NPV.
Before You Begin
Enabling the port license requires fibre channel (FC) ports.
Procedure
Enable the port license.
Example:
Switch(config)# port-license acquire
Configuring FC NPV Interfaces
After you enable FC NPV, you should configure the NP uplink interfaces and the server interfaces.

To configure an NP uplink interface, perform this task:

Configuring a Server Interface

To configure a server interface, perform this task:
Switch(config)# int fc1/1
Command or Action
switch# configure terminal
switch(config)# interface { fc slot/port |
san-port-channel <number> }
switch(config-if)# switchport speed speed
switch(config-if)# switchport mode NP
switch(config-if)# no shutdown
Enabling the Fibre Channel Port License
Purpose
Enters global configuration mode.
Selects an interface (Fibre Channel or SAN port
channel) that will be connected to the core FC
NPV switch.
Sets the speed, which can be 4 G, 8G, or 16 G
Note
8 G speed is not supported for server and
target interfaces.
Configures the interface as an NP port.
Brings up the interface.
