3.1

Installing Phoneline Ethernet Switch

3.1.1

Desktop Installation

For desktop installation, place the switch on a clean, flat surface close to a power
outlet.
When deciding the location of the switch, you must ensure:
n
It is accessible and cables can be connected easily.
n
Cabling is away from sources of electrical noise such as radios, transmitters,
broadband amplifiers, power lines and fluorescent lighting fixtures.
n
Water or moisture cannot enter the unit.
n
Airflow around the unit and through the vents on the sides of the case is not
restricted (a minimum of one inch clearance is recommended).
To prolong the operating life of your units:
n
Never stack more than eight switches if freestanding.
n
Do not obstruct the vents on the sides of the case.
3.1.2

Rack-Mount Installation

The switch can be mounted in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Two mounting
brackets and screws are supplied with the switch for rack mounting.
To rack-mount the switch:
1. Disconnect all cables from the switch.
2. Place the switch on a hard, flat surface with the front facing you.
3. Place a mounting bracket over the mounting holes on one side of the switch.
4. Insert the screws and fully tighten with a screwdriver.
5. Repeat the previous two steps for the other side of the switch.
6. Insert the unit into the 19" rack and secure it with suitable screws (not
provided).
7. Reconnect all cables.
3.1.3

Installing Network Cables

3.1.3.1 Station Connections with Telephone Wires
The phoneline networking stations are connected to the switch by regular
telephone lines with RJ-11 connectors. To make the connection, insert one end of
