Chapter 7: Troubleshooting and support
Possible cause
The camera
needs time to
lock focus and
exposure.
The camera is
taking a long
exposure.
The camera is
set to either the
Red-Eye
or
Night
flash
setting.
The flash
provided too
much light.
You were too
close to the
subject to use
the flash.
A natural or
artificial source
other than the
flash provided
too much light.
The scene had
many dark
objects, such as
a black dog on
a black couch.
Solution
Use
Focus
Lock. (See
lock
on page 31.)
Use a tripod or the flash.
It will take longer to take a picture
with either the
flash setting. The shutter is
delayed because of the additional
flash. In turn, make sure your
subjects wait for the second flash.
Use the
Flash Off
page 31).
Move back from the subject or use
the
Flash Off
setting (see
page 31), and take the picture
again.
Try taking the picture from a
different angle. Avoid pointing
the camera directly toward a
bright light or reflective surface on
a sunny day. Try adjusting the
Exposure Compensation

Decrease the
Exposure
Compensation
the dark objects in the scene will
not look "washed-out."
