Chapter 7: Audio faults

Pre-check
An easy way to define any audio fault is to make a call with the defect phone to a properly working
one. If you can hear the speech of the proper working phone in the defect one but not the other
way round, the signal path of the internal microphone is responsible for the fault.
With help of the same procedure you can check the internal hands free speaker and the external
audio-pathes XMIC and XEAR.
Repair instructions

Internal microphone faulty

If the internal microphone does not work, check mechanical appearance of microphone I202;
especially check spring contacts if bent or soiled. Also make sure that contact pads for microphone
on PWB are clean; if necessary clean them with an appropriate amount of isopropyl alcohol. In no
way use any scratching or rubbing tools!

Internal earpiece faulty

Check mechanical appearance of internal earpiece I006; change part if spring contacts are bent or
soiled. Resistance of earpiece normally is 32 ohm. Also make sure that contact pads for earpiece on
hinge flex are clean; if necessary clean them with an appropriate amount of alcohol. In no way use
any scratching or rubbing tools! Furthermore, check mechanical appearance and solderings of
connector X817 if earpiece does not work.
Often this item is also responsible if the received speech sounds distorted. In this case the earpiece
is mechanically damaged, although this might not be visible.

Internal handsfree speaker faulty

In case the internal handsfree speaker I012 does not work, check if spring contacts of the speaker
are bent or soiled. Also ensure that the contact pads for I012 on UI-PWB I010 are clean. Resistance
of IHF-speaker normally is 8 ohm. Furthermore, check mechanical appearance and solderings of
connector X817 if internal handsfree speaker does not work. In case of any problem with the
speaker, the UI-PWB or the hinge flex, it is necessary to exchange mechanical subassembly A4.
If changing the mechanical subassembly A4 does not solve the problem, it also is possible that the
IHF-amplifier N662 is defect. Activate e.g. the buzzer with help of the service software, and check
the incoming audio signal at both sides of C621 using an oscilloscope. Furthermore check that
voltage level at R419 is 1.8V (enables N662). If these signals are ok but no audio signal is
measurable at C341 and C863, most probably the IHF-amplifier N662 is defect.
