Measure the distance from the front ofthe bladetip to the groundandthe
rearofthe bladetip to the ground.Thefirst measurement takenshouldbe
between1/4" and3/8"lessthanthe second measurement.

Determine the approximate distance necessary for properadjustment a nd
proceed, i f necessary.

Usingawrench,raiseor lowerthe front ofdeckbyturninglocknut on the
front decklift rodandsecure with the rearjam nuts.See Figure 30.

The deck isproperly leveled whenthefronttipofthebladeisI/4" lowerthanthe
reartip.Retighten t hehexboltontheleftreardeck hanger l inkswhenproper
adjustment isachieved.
Adjusting the Front GaugeWheels
Remove t he locknut securing oneof thefront gaugewheelhexscrews to the
deck.Remove t he gauge wheel,hexscrew andspacer. SeeFigure 31.

Insertthe hexscrew into the oneof threeindexholesinthe front gauge
wheelbracketthatwill givethegaugewheela%1/2"clearance w ith the
ground.
Notethe indexholeof thejust adjusted wheel,andadjustthe otherfront
gaugewheelinto the respective indexholeofthe otherfront gauge wheel
bracket.
Keephandsandfeet awayfrom the dischargeopening of the cutting deck.
Thefront gaugewheels on the mowerdeckareananti-scalpfeature,andshould
not rideonthe ground.Thefront gaugewheels shouldbeapproximately 1 /4-1/2"
above the groundwhenthe deckissetinthe desiredheightsetting.
Using the decklift handle,setthe deckinthe desiredheightsetting,thencheck the
gaugewheeldistance fromthe groundbelow.If necessary a djustthe front gauge
wheels asfollows:
Visually check the distance betweenthe front gaugewheels andtheground.
If thegaugewheelsarenearor touchingthe ground,theyshouldberaised. I f

morethan/2" above the ground,they shouldbe lowered.
