CONSUMER MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
ENGINE OIL RECOMMENDATIONS
NOTICE
Engine oil is a major factor affecting engine performance
and service life. Non-detergent and 2-stroke engine oils will
damage the engine and are not recommended.
• Be sure to use engine oils specified below.
It is very important to maintain proper level of engine oil to
keep engine in good running condition.
• Check engine oil level prior to each use. Refill engine
oil if oil level is too low.
Use 4-stroke oil, or equivalent high detergent, premium
quality motor oil certified to meet or exceed U.S. automo-
bile manufacturer's requirements for API Performance
Class SL, SJ, or better.
SAE 10W-30 is recommended for general temperature
use. Refer to Figure 7-1 for information on other viscosi-
ties that may be used. Other viscosities shown in chart
may be used when average temperature in your area is
within indicated range.

NOTE:
Dispose of used motor oil according to guidelines estab-
lished by your local or state government.
Low Oil Protection
The generator engine is protected from low lubrication fail-
ure by a LOP (Low Oil Presence) switch. This switch pre-
vents the operation of the ignition system until sufficient oil
is added to the crankcase for proper engine lubrication.
This switch operates by a float-level design; as the switch
is immersed in oil, the resistance measurement of the
switch goes from zero to infinity. If the oil level is insuffi-
cient, the switch opens, thus creating an open circuit in the
ignition system, stopping the engine.

tion.
The engine will not start until the required amount of

engine oil is added.
Crankcase pressure can cause hot engine oil to
spray out of engine fill hole. Hot engine oil can
cause severe burns.
• ALWAYS stop engine before removing oil fill cap.
