Flat Fell Seams

Stitch pattern
to be selected
This stitch pattern is used to finish fabric edges neatly with
increased durability.
With right sides together,
align edges of two pieces
of fabric and sew them

together.

Applique

Stitch pattern
to be selected
Commercially available applique pieces or those of your own
making can be easily attached with increased durability.
Secure applique fabrics

on fabric.
Use
Filler cloth
fusible web or
spray adhesive
Adhere applique pieces with
fusible web, spray adhesive or
baste them on the fabric. Then,
place a press cloth over applique
pieces and lightly press with an
iron.

Cut away one half of
seam allowance. (On one

Sew edges of applique pieces following
procedure similar to those of overcasting. At
beginning and end of seam, press reverse
stitch switch to perform back tacking. For
applique pieces with sharp curves, decrease
zigzag width.
Open fabrics at seamline
and press the uncut
seam allowance over the

cut seam allowance.

To sew a sharp curve or to change sewing
direction, raise presser foot with needle
lowered in applique piece edge.
Fold wider seam allow-
ance around the narrow
seam allowance and sew

along folded edge.

Lower the needle
at the corner of
applique piece.
Then, raise
presser foot.
