7.4. 512e Drives
For AssuredSAN storage arrays, Dot Hill supports emulation, or 512e drives, rather than the 4K native sector
format for the drives. These drives include emulation (e) which supports backward compatibility for the many
applications and legacy operating systems that do not support 4K native drives. Dot Hill continues to work
actively with its drive suppliers and firmware teams to optimize drives to reduce the potential performance impacts
that come with emulation and enable your organization to gain greater value from 512e drives.
Older versions of application software such as virtualization software that reside between the operating system and
your storage firmware may not fully support 512e drive emulation. If not, performance degradation might result.
Please ensure that you have upgraded to the most recent version of any software that might be affected, and refer to
its documentation for further information.
