Power trim and tilt system

WARNING
 Never get under the lower unit while it is
tilted, even when the tilt support lever is
locked. Severe injury could occur if the
outboard motor accidentally falls.
 Body parts can be crushed between the
motor and the clamp bracket when the
motor is trimmed or tilted.
 Be sure no one is near the outboard mo-
tor before performing this check.

Check the power trim and tilt unit for any
sign of oil leaks.
2.
Operate each of the power trim and tilt
switches to check that all switches work.
3.
Tilt the outboard motor up and check
that the trim and tilt rod is pushed out
completely.

Check that the trim and tilt rod is free of
corrosion or other flaws.
5.
Tilt the outboard motor down. Check
that the trim and tilt rod operates
smoothly.

Battery

Check that the battery is in good condition,
and fully charged. Check that the battery
connections are clean, secure and covered
by insulating covers. The electrical contacts

of the battery and cables must be clean and
properly connected or the battery will not
start the engine.
Refer to the battery manufacturer's instruc-
tions for checks for your particular battery.

 Gasoline and its vapors are highly flam-
mable and explosive. Always refuel ac-
cording to this procedure to reduce the
risk of fire and explosion.
 Gasoline is poisonous and can cause in-
jury or death. Handle gasoline with care.
Never siphon gasoline by mouth. If you
should swallow some gasoline or inhale
a lot of gasoline vapor, or get some gas-
oline in your eyes, see your doctor im-
mediately. If gasoline spills on your skin,
wash with soap and water. If gasoline
spills on your clothing, change your
clothes.

Filling fuel

WARNING
Be sure the engine is stopped.
Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel tank
and tighten the air vent screw on the fuel
tank cap.
Remove the portable tank from the boat.
Be sure you are in a well-ventilated out-
door area, either securely moored or
trailered.
