There are two types:
Conventional The encryption keys can be tied
Multikey (strapped), on a one-per-channel
basis, through Customer
Programming Software. In addition,
you can have operator-selectable
keys, operator-selectable keysets,
and operator-selectable key
erasure. If talkgroups are enabled
in conventional, then the encryption
keys are strapped to the talkgroups.
Trunked If you use your radio for both
Multikey conventional and trunked
applications, you have to strap your
encryption keys for trunking on a
per-talkgroup or announcement-
group basis. In addition, you may
strap a different key to other
features, such as dynamic
regrouping, failsoft, or emergency
talkgroup. You can have operator-
selectable key erasure.
Selecting an Encryption Key

2 Press the Menu Select button directly below Key.
The display shows the last user-selected and
stored encryption key, and the available menu
selections.
3 or to scroll through the encryption keys or
use the keypad to enter the number of the desired
key.
4 Perform one of the following actions:
• Press the Menu Select button directly below
Sel to save the newly selected key and return
to the Home screen.
•
Press , the PTT button, or the Menu Select
button directly below Exit.
• Turn the 16-Position Select knob to exit.
Note: When the selected key is erased, you hear
a momentary keyfail tone and the display shows
Key fail.
