Warning
A blade that is bent or damaged could break
apart and could seriously injure or kill you or
bystanders.
Always replace a bent or damaged blade with a
new blade.
Never file or create sharp notches in the edges
or surfaces of the blade.
Starting and Stopping the
Engine
Starting the Engine
1. Sit down on the seat and move the motion controls to
neutral locked position.
2. Set the parking brake; refer to Setting the Parking
Brake, page 18.
3. Move the PTO (power take off) to the off position
(Fig. 16).
4. Move the choke control to the on position before
starting a cold engine (Fig. 17).
Note: A warm or hot engine may require choking. After
engine starts, move choke control to the off position.
5. Move the throttle control to the fast position before
starting a cold engine (Fig. 18).
6. Turn ignition key to start to energize starter. When
engine starts, release key (Fig. 19).
Important
Do not engage starter for more than
10 seconds at a time. If engine fails to start allow
30 second cool-down period between attempts. Failure to
follow these instructions can burn out starter motor.
7. After the engine starts, move the choke to the off
position (Fig. 17). If the engine stalls or hesitates,
move the choke back to on for a few seconds. Then
move the throttle lever to desired setting. Repeat this
as required.

Stopping the Engine
1. Push the PTO to off (Fig. 18).
2. Move the throttle lever midway between the slow and
fast positions (Fig. 18).
3. Let the engine idle for 60 seconds (Fig. 19).
4. Turn the ignition key to off (Fig. 19).
5. Pull wire off spark plugs to prevent possibility of
someone accidentally starting the machine before
transporting or storing machine.
6. Close fuel shut off valve, on front panel before
transporting or storing machine.
Important
Make sure fuel shut off valve is closed
before transporting or storing machine, as fuel leakage
may occur. Set parking brake before transporting.
