use
a
Rest
Instrument

(rest).
Using the
Rest,
you
can
create a
"choking
gate,"
or
mute
effect.
Procedure
Set the Assign
Type
(see
page 46)
of the
Rest
and
the
Instrument
to
the
same
EXC
number
.
Then
play
the
Rest

assigned
key

right
after
the
instrument.
In
this
way,
the instrument
is
muted
or cut
off.

grabbing
it
with your

Cutting the
snare's reverberation

muting
effect (using the Rest)
can
be written

a
slow
rising
sound,
and
therefore
can be
played
rhythmically
by
shifting
the
overall
timing
forward with
"Macro
Timing
Shift"
(see
page
100),
or
"Micro
Timing
Shift"
(see
page
101).
