1. Lay the product on a fl at, bare surface.
2. Ensure the engine switch is in the "I" (ON) position.
3. Push the primer bulb approximately 10 times.
4. Set the choke lever to Full position
5. Hold down the throttle lock-off button and squeeze the
throttle trigger.
6. Pull the starter grip with a quick fi rm and consistent
upward motion until the engine attempts to start (No
more than 4 pulls).
7. Set the choke lever to the RUN position
8. Hold down the throttle the lock-off button and squeeze
the throttle trigger.
9. Pull the starter grip with a quick fi rm and consistent
upward motion until the engine starts (No more than
6 pulls).
NOTE: If engine does not start, return to step 4 and repeat
the steps.
NOTE: When the engine starts, let it run for 30 seconds
prior to operation.
To start a warm engine
Follow these steps to start a warm engine:
1. Lay the product on a fl at, bare surface.
2. Ensure the engine switch is in the "I" (ON) position.
3. Ensure the choke lever is set to the Run position
4. Hold down the throttle lock-off button and squeeze the
throttle trigger.
5. Pull the starter grip with a quick fi rm and consistent
upward motion until the engine starts (No more than
6 pulls).
NOTE: If engine does not start, return to step 4 on the "To
start a cold engine" and repeat the steps.
STOPPING THE PRODUCT
■ Release the throttle trigger.
■ Push the engine switch to the "O" (OFF) position.

MAINTENANCE

Use only genuine replacement parts and accessories.
Failure to do so may cause poor performance, possible
injury, and will void your warranty.
■ The cutting attachment must not work in idle mode. If
this requirement is not satisfied, the clutch has to be
adjusted or the machine needs an urgent maintenance
by a qualified technician.
■ You may make adjustments and repairs described
here. For other repairs, have the trimmer serviced by
an authorised service agent.

BLADE PROTECTOR
See fi gure 15.
Always place the blade protector on the blade when the
unit is not in use. The blade protector has clips round the
edges to snap over the blade and keep it in place. Wear
gloves and be cautious when handling the blade.
NOTE: Always remove the blade protector before using
the unit. If not removed, the blade protector could become
a thrown object as the blade begins to turn.
CLEANING THE AIR FILTER
See fi gure 16.
■ Ensure the unit is in the off position.
■ Remove the spark plug cover.
■ Loosen the air filter cover by turning the knob
counterclockwise.
■ Remove the air filter cover.
■ Remove the air filter and clean it with warm soapy
.
water.
■ Rinse, and let the air filter dry completely.
■ Work two drops of lubricant into the air filter.
■ Replace the air filter (fits only one way).
■ Replace the air filter cover. Tighten the knob securely.
■ Replace the spark plug cover.
CHECKING THE FUEL CAP
A leaking fuel cap is a fi re hazard and must be replaced
immediately.
The fuel cap contains a non-serviceable fi lter and a
check valve. A clogged fuel fi lter will cause poor engine
performance. If performance improves when the fuel cap
is loosened, check valve may be faulty or fi lter clogged.
Replace fuel cap if required.
REPLACING THE SPARK PLUG
See fi gure 17.
This engine uses a NGK CMR7A or a Champion RCJ4Y
spark plug. Use an exact replacement.
1. Remove the spark plug boot. (item 60)
2. Loosen the spark plug (item 61) by turning it
counterclockwise.
3. Remove the spark plug.

4. Hand thread the new spark plug, turning it clockwise.
5. Tighten with a socket. Do not overtighten.
