Section 8: Troubleshooting
Symptoms
Engine is overheating
Low engine oil pressure
(Indicated by oil light being on while
engine is running.)
High engine oil consumption
Mower is jerky when starting to
travel.
Steering levers do not return to
neutral.
Mower creeps when steering
control levers are in neutral.
Mower circles or veers in one
direction.
Mower travels only in one direction
Transaxle is noisy
Transaxle leaks oil
Transaxles operates hot.

Troubleshooting Chart
Probable Causes
Air intake screen or cleaning fins clogged. Clean screen and fins.
Not operating engine at rated speed.
Other causes.
Low oil level.
Oil diluted or too light.

Steering linkage is bent or needs
adjustment.
Drive belt is slipping.
Pulleys are worn or damage.
Transaxle is faulty.
Steering linkage is out of adjustment.
Steering linkage is bent, broken, or
missing.
Transaxle neutral return spring is broken
or missing.
Steering linkage is out of adjustment.
Tires are not inflated properly.
Steering linkage is bent or needs
adjustment.
Bypass assembly is sticking.

Drive belt is slipping.
Pulleys are worn or damage.
