ROUTINE SERVICE
Check the coolant levelin the plastic coolant reservoir and if it is necessary
to add
coolant,
add it to the plastic reservoir only. Add
~nough
coolant to
adjust the leveHo the HOT LEVEL or COLD LEVEL marks, depending
on the cooling system temperature at the time.
Whenever you do add coolant to your car, use equal parts of water and
Ford Cooling System Fluid. If you have to add coolant more than once
a month, or if you have to add more than one quart at a time, have your
dealer check the cooling system for leaks.
Replacing Coolant
DRAINING SYSTEM-Replace the coolant in your car at the interval
specified in the maintenance schedule for your vehicle
.
Drain and flush
the cooling system completely before reftlling it. Place the air temperature
control lever of the heating system in your car on maximum heat during
coolant replacement to make sure the heater core is also drained and filled.
REFILLING SYSTEM 4 AND 6 CYLINDER
ENGINES-After
you have
completely drained the cooling system, use the following reftll procedure
to remove air from the system and provide the proper coolant level.
1.
Set the air temperature control lever to the maximum heat position.
2. Fill the radiator to 1
~
inches below the ftller neck seat
and,
leave the
radiator cap off.
3. Run the engine until the thermostat opens and the radiator upper hose
becomes hot.
4. Stop the engine and add coolant to I
~
inches below the ftller neck seat.
Install the radiator cap.
REFILLING SYSTEM 302 ENGINE ONLY-After you have completely
drained the cooling
system,
including the plastic coolant
reservoir,
use the
following procedure to fill the system, remove the air from the system
and to provide the proper coolant level.

Set the air temperature control lever to the maximum heat position
.
. Fill the cooling system through the filler neck in the upper radiator
hose, until the coolant level is up to the bottom of the filler neck.
Install the radiator cap.
