Safety distance between cooktop and
rangehood
The minimum distances between
the top of a cooktop and the bottom
of the rangehood are as follows,
unless a greater distance is
specified by the manufacturer of
your cooking appliance:
Cooking appliance
Electric cooktop
Open electric grill
Deep fat fryer (electric)
Multi-burner gas cooktop
with maximum 45.4 MJ/h
total output, with no burner
having a greater output
than 16.2 MJ/h.
Multi-burner gas cooktop
with total output greater
than 45.4 MJ/h, or a gas
cooktop including a single
burner with an output
greater than 16.2 MJ/h.
Single gas cooktop with a
maximum output of 21.6
MJ/h.
Single gas cooktop with a
maximum output greater
than 21.6 MJ/h.

When deciding on the safety distance
between the cooktop and rangehood,
please note that a distance of 650 mm
above electric cooktops may be
preferable to give more working space
under the rangehood.

height of the person who will be
using the rangehood most often.
