What Is a SIM Card?

Your SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module) is a
smart card that contains your phone number,
service details, and memory for storing Phone Book
entries and messages. If you don't have your
phone, you can insert your SIM card into a friend's
phone and make use of your personal wireless
service.
Keep in Mind: Your phone has limited functionality
without the SIM card.
GSM SIM Card Capability
If you already have a GSM SIM card and your
service provider has a roaming agreement with the
Iridium satellite system, you can use it in your
satellite telephone. You need an optional Cellular
Cassette to access your local cellular/PCS service.
Keep in Mind: If you are using a GSM SIM card, you
may not have access to certain features that are
specific to the Iridium satellite system, and vice
versa.
SIM Card Protection
Keep your SIM card in your wallet or purse when
you're not using it. This helps keep your personal
information secure and gives you access to your
service even if you don't have your phone. If you
forget your phone, insert your SIM card into a
friend's phone to access your personal service.
Caution: Avoid bending, scratching, or exposing
your card to static electricity, water, or dirt.
