Replacing the memory module under the bottom cover

Before you start, print these instructions. Read the important safety information first. See "Important
safety information" on page vi.
Increasing memory capacity is an effective way to make programs run faster. To replace or add a memory
module, read the following prerequisites, and then the instructions.
Note: The operating speed of the memory module has dependency on the system configuration. In some
conditions, the memory module in your computer might not be able to operate at the maximum speed.
Attention:
• Before you start, touch a metal table or a grounded metal object. This action reduces any static electricity
from your body. Static electricity could damage the memory module.
• Do not touch the contact edge of the memory module. Otherwise the memory module might get damaged.
To replace the memory module, do the following:
1. Disconnect the ac power from the computer and turn off the computer. Close the computer display
and turn the computer over.
2. Remove the removable battery. See "Replacing the removable battery" on page 115.
3. Remove the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 118.
4. Open the latches on both sides of the memory slot at the same time

Note: A Mylar film might cover the memory module. To access the memory module, open the film first.
5. Insert the memory module into the memory slot at an angle of about 20 degrees
module downward until it snaps into place
