Checking t he c hain t ension
The tension of the chain is correct if the chain rests against
the b ottom s ide o f t he g uide b ar a nd c an s till b e e asily t urned
by h and.
While d oing s o t he c hain b rake m ust b e r eleased.
Check t he c hain t ension f requently -­ n ew c hains t end t o g et
longer during use!
When checking the chain tension the engine must be
switched off.
NOTE: I t i s r ecommended t o u se 2 -­3 c hains a lternatively.
In o rder t o g uarantee u niform w ear o f t he g uide b ar t he b ar
should b e t urned o ver w henever r eplacing t he c hain.
Retensioning t he s aw c hain
All that is necessary to retension the saw chain is to loosen
the q uick t ensioner ( 2) s lightly a s d escribed u nder " Mount-­
ing t he g uide b ar a nd s aw c hain".
Tension t he c hain a s a lready d escribed.
For a ll m odels
Chain b rake
The E A3200S a nd E A3201S c omes w ith a n i nertia c hain b rake
as s tandard e quipment. I f k ickback o ccurs d ue t o c ontact o f
the g uide-­bar t ip w ith w ood ( see S AFETY P RECAUTIONS,
page 7 , 1 1), t he c hain b rake w ill s top t he c hain t hrough i nertia
if t he k ickback i s s ufficiently s trong.
The chain will stop within a fraction of a second.
The chain brake is installed to block the saw chain
before s tarting i t a nd t o s top i t i mmediately i n c ase o f
an e mergency.
IMPORTANT: N EVER r un t he s aw w ith t he c hain b rake
activated (except for testing, see "Checking the chain
brake")! Doing so can very quickly cause extensive
engine d amage!
ALWAYS r elease t he c hain b rake
before s tarting t he w ork!
Engaging t he c hain b rake ( braking)
If t he k ickback i s s trong e nough t he s udden a cceleration o f
the g uide b ar c ombined w ith t he i nertia o f t he h and g uard ( 1)
will automatically a ctuate t he c hain b rake.
To e ngage t he c hain b rake m anually, simply push the hand
guard (1) forward (towards the tip of the saw) with your left
hand (arrow 1).
Releasing t he c hain b rake
Pull the hand guard (1) towards you (arrow 2) until you feel it
catch. T he b rake i s n ow r eleased.
