Touch Pad
(Advanced)
When you want to re-enable the touch pad

Windows 2000
In [Control Panel] - [System] - [Hardware] - [Device Manager], when an external
mouse or trackball device is displayed in [Mice and other pointing devices], select
[Driver] - [Uninstall] to delete it, and then select [OK] to confirm the deletion.
Windows XP
In [Control Panel] - [Performance and Maintenance] - [System] - [Hardware] - [De-
vice Manager], when an external mouse or trackball device is displayed in [Mice
and other pointing devices], select the device and [Driver] - [Uninstall] to delete it,
and then select [OK] to confirm the deletion.

The display will ask you to restart Windows, select [No].

Power off your computer and remove the external mouse or trackball device.

Turn the power on and run the Setup Utility (
[Touch Pad] to [Enable] or [Auto] and close the Setup Utility.

Windows 2000
Confirm whether [touchpad] exists in [Mice and other pointing devices] (in [Control
Panel] - [System] - [Hardware] - [Device Manager].
Windows XP
Confirm whether [touchpad] exists in [Mice and other pointing devices] (in [Control
Panel] - [Performance and Maintenance] - [System] - [Hardware] - [Device Manager].
NOTE
When [PS/2 Compatible Mouse] or [PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port (UPDD)
is displayed in [Mice and other pointing devices]:
Windows 2000

Double-click [PS/2 Compatible Mouse].

Select [Driver] - [Update Driver], then select [Next].

Select [Display a list of the known drivers....], then select [Next].

At the [Update Device Driver Wizard], select [touchpad], then select [Next].

Select [Next].

If the message "Digital Signature Not Found" is displayed, select [Yes].

Select [Finish], then select [Close].

The display will ask you to restart Windows, select [Yes].
Windows XP

Double-click [PS/2 Compatible Mouse].

Select [Driver] - [Update Driver], then select [Install from a list or specific
location (Advanced)], and then select [Next].

Select [Don't search, I will choose the driver to install], then select [Next].

Select [touchpad], then select [Next].

If the message "Hardware installation" is displayed, select [Continue Anyway].

Select [Finish], then select [Close].

The display will ask you to restart Windows, select [Yes].
Handling the Touch Pad
The touch pad will not operate under the following conditions:
• When [Touch Pad] is set to [Disable] in the Setup Utility
• When [Touch Pad] is set to [Auto] in the Setup Utility and a mouse is connected to
the keyboard/mouse port of the port replicator
(At the time of purchase, [Touch Pad] is set to [Enable].)
Do not place any object on the work surface or press down forcefully with sharp-
pointed objects (e.g., nails), hard objects that can leave marks (e.g., pencils and ball
point pens).
Do not allow things that could dirty the touch pad, such as oil. The cursor may not
work properly in such cases.
When the touch pad becomes dirty:
Wipe to remove dirty areas by using a dry soft cloth such as gauze or a soft cloth first
applied with detergent diluted with water and then thoroughly wrung.
Do not use benzene or thinner, or disinfectant-type alcohol.
