Sleep State This item specifies the power saving modes for ACPI function. If your operating system supports ACPI, such as Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, you can choose to enter the Standby mode in S1(POS) or S3(STR) fashion through the setting of this field.

PCI, or Peripheral Component Interconnect, is a system which allows I/O devices to operate at speeds nearing the speed the CPU itself uses when communi- cating with its special components.

When an I/O device needs to gain the attention of the operating system, it signals this by causing an IRQ to occur. After receiving the signal, when the operating system is ready, the system will interrupt itself and perform the service required by the I/O device.
