TROUBLESHOOTING

Prior to requesting after-sales service, read through the following list to troubleshoot common problems.
SYMPTOMS ENCOUNTERED DURING RECEPTION AND TRANSMISSION
Symptom
Screens do not appear correctly during power
up (
).
Cannot receive even if the antenna is
connected to the transceiver.
The RX sensitivity is low.
The received signal cannot correctly be
demodulated.
The frequency cannot be changed even with
a rotation of the RIT or XIT control.
The treble and bass of the received audio in
SSB mode are excessively filtered.
The audio is distorted.
No audio sounds from the speaker.
With stereo headphones, the audio sounds
from one channel.
In FM mode, the performance of the S meter
is dull.

Common Problem
A microprocessor is erroneously active.
The Squelch is open.
The attenuator is active.
The preamplifier is active.
Wrong antenna was selected.
The RX ANT is active.
Cannot tune even if the antenna tuner is
active.
The gain was reduced by the RF control. Rotate the RF control fully clockwise.
The center frequency of the preselector
is deviated.
Configuration for the transverter is
incorrect.
The transverter is active.
An additional filter has been enabled
even though an additional filter is not
installed onto the transceiver.
The bandwidth for the preselector is
deviated.
The selected operating mode is
inappropriate.
The AGC function was configured
inappropriately.
The RIT/XIT function is active.
Configurations for the RX DSP filter do
not match the operating environment.
The AGC function is active.
The audio level is high due to the
position of the AF control.
The AF control is excessively rotated
counterclockwise.
The SQL control is excessively rotated
clockwise.
A set of headphones is connected.
CTCSS tone is enabled in FM mode.
The audio line is muted.
An external speaker is not correctly
connected nor configured.
In Menu 1-07, configuration for the
mixing balance specifies only one
channel.
Sensitivity of the S meter is low.
What to do
Reset the transceiver.
Adjust the SQL control. If the transceiver is
used with a TNC, be sure the DCD LED on the
TNC does not light.
Disable the attenuator.
Disable the preamplifier.
Reselect the antenna.
Be sure that the RX ANT is inactive.
Press and hold [AT/TUNE] to tune. Or, stop
the antenna tuning.
Reset the center frequency of the preselector
to default.
Be sure that the transverter is correctly
configured (if the transverter is active), and is
properly working.
If the transverter is active, be sure that the
transverter is working properly.
Review the configuration for the additional
filter.
Readjust the preselector (main band only).
Select another operating mode.
Configure the AGC function again.
Press [RIT] or [XIT].
Change the configurations.
Enable the AGC function, or adjust the RF
gain with the RF control.
Rotate the AF control to adjust the volume
level.
Rotate the AF control clockwise.
Rotate the SQL control counterclockwise.
Disconnect the headphones.
Deactivate CTCSS
Unmute the audio line.
Disconnect the external speaker, or review
the connection to and configuration for the
external speaker.
Review the configuration for Menu 1-07.
Select "High" for the S meter sensitivity in
Menu 0-08.
