UPGRADING OLDER VERSIONS OF
ETHER-1000 UNITS TO VERSION 3
ETHER-1000 firmware Version 1 is used by the vast majority of customers
whose ETHER-1000 units were delivered prior to June 2011.
ETHER-1000 firmware Version 2 is used by a few customers whose ETHER-
1000 units were delivered prior to June 2011. It includes bug fixes observed in
Version 1 and the following new features:
- Full compatibility with ETHER-100 units on all TDM pipes;
- Configurable Default QVLAN ID;
- Output tagging (ability to "push"/"pop" tags on egress);
- Cascade configuration;
- SDH mapping;
- Configurable unit security mode;
- Ability to read source priority from the frame‟s IP „TOS‟ field.
The V1 users that would like to utilize the features offered by V2 should upgrade
directly to V3.
ETHER-1000 firmware Version 3 was released in June 2011. It includes bug
fixes observed in Version 2 and the following new features:
- D-PVLAN trunking (ability to assign multiple D-PVLAN memberships to
a port and to have the same MAC address in multiple D-PVLANs on the
trunk);
- Enhanced QVLAN trunking (ability to have the same MAC address in
multiple QVLANs on the port with QVLAN filtering enabled).
Note: All the units shipped to the customers after June 2011 (including those
returned after repair) will be loaded with V3 firmware.

Upgrading from V1 to V3

The V3 unit is not backwards compatible with V1. Therefore, before adding a V3
unit into a system with ETHER 1000 V1 units, all existing ETHER-1000 units
must be upgraded to V3. Even if no ETHER-1000 units are to be added, to
facilitate system maintenance and take advantage of added features and bug
