If you leave the device connected to your computer after forcing a power-down, you must press the power button again to power it back up. Unlike a safe power-down function, disconnecting and reconnecting the USB interface cable will not power the device back up.

When a drive fails, the utility displays a warning message: Check the drive status LEDs on the front of the device. If one is on steady red, then that one is the failed drive.
