Attention: The system board is sensitive to, and can be damaged by, electrostatic discharge (ESD). Before
touching it, establish personal grounding by touching a ground point with one hand or by using an ESD strap.

Disabling the built-in battery

Before replacing any FRU, ensure that you have disabled the built-in battery by doing the following:

1. Turn off your computer and disconnect all cables from the computer. Connect the ac power adapter to
the power connector on your computer.
2. Do the following to enter Developer mode:
a. Press and hold the esc key, the refresh key

5. Type sudo bash in the chronos@localhost field and press enter.
6. Type ectool batterycutoff in the localhost user field and press enter.
7. When the message SUCCESS. The battery has arranged a cut-off and the system should be shutdown
immediately. is displayed, disconnect the ac power adapter from the computer and the computer turns
off immediately. The built-in battery is disabled. Wait several minutes to let the computer cool.
