Ethernet media between Local Area Networks (LANs) located up to 120Km apart. L322 Series CLIMs The L322 receives and transmits 100Base-T full-duplex Ethernet data from a UTP or fiber optic cable. The CLIM converts the data to or from an electrical signal and extends it over a variety of multimode or single mode fiber optic links.
The UCS 1000 and the UCS 1001 Chassis both host the CLIM BAM with CLIMs installed. The 1002 Chassis hosts the CLIM directly. The 1030 standalone enclosure hosts the CLIM directly. Figure 2. Host Options for the CLIM L322 Fast Ethernet Media Converters...

All CLIMs are hot swappable; they can be inserted or removed at any time without disrupting the data transfer of other modules in the chassis. Note: The Chassis Interconnect Module (CIM) must be present in the chassis in order for the DMM to recognize the L322 modules. L322 Fast Ethernet Media Converters...

If you encounter resistance, pull it out and check that no connector pins are bent on the CLIM or the BAM backplane. If you encounter more difficulty, contact Canoga Perkins at (818) 718-6300 for technical assistance. Note: BAMs are hot-swappable and can be inserted or removed without disrupting data transfer in other application modules.

The attenuation factor and transmission power identify potential problems with links near the lower limit of receiver limitations. For details on link attenuation, see Chapter 5. For details on transmission power, see Chapter 5. L322 Fast Ethernet Media Converters...
For a straight-through cable, set the switch to "N" (in). For a cross-over cable, set the switch to "X" (out). The STA LED indicates the operational status of the CLIM. It does not indicate the status of the Ethernet signal. Table 2 shows the STA LED states for various conditions. L322 Fast Ethernet Media Converters...

When the Extension port receives a Remote Fault signal, the Rx LED lights red and an alarm flags the remote side optical link failure. Both local and remote link partners must be configured to the same RMTF enable/disable setting. L322 Fast Ethernet Media Converters...
Setting up the VT100 session depends on which connection, serial port or Ethernet, you have available for access to the VT100 management program. Canoga Perkins suggests that you use HyperTerminal for your first session. You must set up TCP/IP for the DMM before you can use Telnet;...
Step 5. At the COM Properties dialog, on the Port Settings tab, check for these selections (see Figure • Bits per second: 19200 bps • Data bits: 8 • Parity: None • Stop bits: 1 • Flow control: Hardware L322 Fast Ethernet Media Converters...
Step 6. Click OK. HyperTerminal connects to the system and the VT100 terminal emulation starts. Management User Interface The Management User Interface for the L322 provides screens for setup, monitoring, and diagnostics. You can access the screens directly by connecting to the serial port of the DMM in the chassis or by establishing a Telnet session with the DMM.

Note: For accurate results, warm up each unit for at least 30 minutes before checking power levels. The transmission lasers in CLIMs turn on automatically when the chassis receives power. L322 Fast Ethernet Media Converters...
The result provides the link loss, in dB. This power level must meet the limit for Rx sensitivity listed on the data sheet for the remote unit.
