Fish behaviour can also be observed in real time. The real-time aspects and advantages of the FX80 takes the speculation and guess work out of the equation. This has the potential to increase the efficiency of any trawling operation and will stimulate the creativity of fishermen, trawl and gear manufacturers and of course, Simrad.

Winch system The cable winch is not a part of the Simrad FX80 delivery. It must be provided by the installation shipyard or the client. The chosen winch must offer a high quality slip-ring for the electrical interface between the Bridge Control Unit and the Hub in the Trawl Deployment Unit.

Observe that the FX80 presentation fills the entire screen. Observe that the FX80 starts. The FX80 starts up using the same operational parameters as the last time you used it. If these parameters are acceptable, continue operation. If you wish to alter basic operational parameters, see the dedicated procedures.
This procedure explains how to power off the Simrad FX80. Note You must never switch off the FX80 only by means of the on/off switch on the computer. This may damage the software or the interface parameters for external devices. You must ALWAYS use this procedure.
Switch off the colour display. If required, refer to the instructions provided by the display manufacturer. Operating principles Like most computerized applications, the FX80 is operated using a mouse (or trackball) and an optional keyboard. Important In this manual, the phrase “click” means that you shall place the cursor over the specified button, field or function, and press the left mouse (or trackball) button once.
When started up, the FX80 will automatically apply its previous setup parameters. These procedures are partly provided to get you acquainted with the basic functionality provided by the FX80, partly to set up the system for normal use, and partly to start normal operation.
Starting a video presentation (live feed) Purpose The main purpose of the FX80 system is to provide a real-time video feed from the chosen location on the fishing net. Provided that the FX80 system has been powered up with the necessary hardware units correctly positioned, this procedure explains how to start the video presentation.

Simrad FX80 13 Shrink the tube (E) using the heat gun. Keep the heat moving constantly to prevent overheating, and make sure that you heat the tube all the way around. Start in the centre of the tube. When it has shrunk, proceed towards each end, so that the glue is squeezed out.
No matter how the Camera Unit is mounted on the gear, the most important task will always be to keep it from falling off during use. Simrad FX80 Prerequisites In order to do this procedure, you will need an ample supply of mounting materials (wires and ropes, hooks and shackles). If you have a long camera cable, we recommend that you use a separate winch and cable drum to collect up this cable while the trawl is not in the water.

Note that the presentation is shown in Replay mode. Title Bar Video presentation The largest part of the FX80 presentation is used to provide the video presentation. This can either be the live feed from the camera, or a replay of a previously recorded file.
Title Bar navigational information. Logo and product name This element identifies the Simrad as the manufacturer of the FX80, and the product name. Menu Click this button to hide or recall the menu system.

Simrad FX80 Connection speed This status message provides you with the current transmission speed between the Bridge Control Unit and the Hub on the net. The connection speed is an indicator of your 3 wire and slip ring’s condition and quality.
The menu system is by default located on the right hand side of the FX80 presentation. The selection of operational parameters on the FX80 is done using a set of menus, and several menu buttons. Some of the menu buttons open dialog boxes to provide additional parameters.
Power up the computer. Insert the FX80 software media. If the FX80 software is provided on a CD or DVD, and your computer is not fitted with a suitable drive, copy the files from the CD/DVD to a USB flash drive.
Prerequisites We assume that you are familiar with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. A suitable computer is available, and the Simrad FX80 software has been installed. Procedure Power up the Processor Unit (computer), log in if required, and wait until the operating system starts.

Simrad FX80 10 Start the Simrad FX80 software. Write down the communication parameters in a small text file, and place the file on the computer desktop. The information is then readily available if you for some reason need to change the computer setup later.
The menu system The menu system The menu navigation employed by the FX80 is similar to the other Simrad applications which follow the new user interface standards developed by Simrad. By means of dedicated icons you can open and close the relevant menus. Menu choices shown in dark colours are not available for the current operation or operational mode.
Several additional functions are also provided when the is activated.
