    1.2.1) MONO AND STEREO MODE TO RUN THE CABINET IN MONO MODE Connect the speaker out of your amplifier to the socket marked “Left/ Mono”. In this case both speakers are wired in parallel and both will sound. Example: If the cabinet is loaded with two 16 Ohms speakers, then the total impedance at the “Left/Mono”...

    1.3) 4X12 CABINET The below picture shows the jackplate for the 412 cabinets. Since the 412 cabinet consists of four speakers you have more options as far as connections are concerned.

    1.3.1) MONO AND STEREO MODE Use the slide switcher to switch between the two modes. NOTE Never switch while you are playing. In most cases changing the mode of the cabinet will also require you to change connections on the amp or ca- binet.

    3) INSERTING/REPLACING SPEAKERS To insert or replace a speaker carry out the following steps: Remove the grill Lay the cabinet down on its back on a clean padded surface (use a blanket, carpet or similar to make sure the back of the cabinet doesn’t get any scratches and the jackplate is not strained).

    3.1) CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS ON A 212 CABINET On the 212 cabinets there are two cable pairs, one pair for each speaker. Make sure to wire both speakers the same way (red lead to “+”). Otherwise the speakers will be out of phase and the sound will be poor. 3.2) CONNECTING SPEAKERS ON A 412 CABINET The 412 cabinet comes with two additional short connection cables.
  • Page 18 Some speakers ship with padding on both sides of the basket, others only have padding on one side. As the speakers on the Palmer cabinets are front loaded, make sure they are padded on the back. If they are not padded you can resort heat insulation tape as it is used for windows and doors or similar.
  • Page 19 Use the supplied screws and fasten the speaker to the baffle in the following order (1-4). Once all screws are tightened, retighten them. NOTE Do not over tighten the screws. Do not use a power-drill or power- screwdriver!

    IMPORTANT NOTE The baffle is equipped with four M5 T-Nuts (drive-in-nuts) When inserting the screws into the holes and when tightening them APPLY MINIMAL DOWNPRESSURE! Too much pressure on the screw will push the T-Nut out. T - NUT TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE SCREW WILL PUSH THE T-NUT OUT! Tighten the screws slowly and carefully to make sure they do not cant –...

    Put the Grill back on Test the cabinet 3.3) TESTING THE CABINET CHECKING THE PHASE There is a simple method to check if all the speakers in a multi-speaker- cabinet are in phase. All you need is a 9V battery and a speaker cable. Connect the speaker cable to the cabinet and take the jack connector at the other end and let it touch the poles of a 9V Battery (one pole on the tip and the other on the sleve of the jack connector).
  • Page 22 NOTE Some speakers have a lighter cone and will also move if the air pressure changes within the cabinet. For example, if you do the above battery test on a 412 cabinet with Celestions Vintage 30 and you just give the spea- kers a short impulse then it may appear that the speakers are moving in different directions.

    4)CALCULATING IMPEDANCES There are generally two ways to wire two or more speakers, please see the below diagram. AS A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB: If speakers with equal impedance are connected in series, the impedances are added. Example: Four 8 Ohm speakers wired in series will have an overall imped- ance of 32 Ohms (8 x 4).

Beispiel: Die Impedanz der ersten Palmer Gitarrenbox beträgt 8 Ohm. Die Gesamt-Impedanz der zweiten Box muss ebenfalls 8 Ohm betragen. Schließen Sie die zweite Box an eine der Buchsen der ersten Box an. Für den ang- eschlossenen Verstärker beträgt die Gesamt-Impedanz nun 4 Ohm.

    1.2.1) MONO- UND STEREO-MODUS SO BETREIBEN SIE DIE LAUTSPRECHERBOX IM MONO-MODUS Schließen Sie Ihren Verstärker an der Buchse mit der Beschriftung „Left/ Mono“ an. In diesem Fall sind beide Lautsprecher parallel verkabelt und geben dasselbe Signal wieder. Beispiel: Wenn die Gitarrenbox mit zwei 16 Ohm Lautsprechern bestückt ist, beträgt die Gesamt-Impedanz an der Buchse „Left/Mono“...

    1.3) 4 X 12 GITARRENBOX Die Abbildung unten zeigt das Anschlussfeld der 412 Gitarrenbox. Da die 412 Gitarrenbox über vier Lautsprecher verfügt, ergeben sich entsprechend deutlich mehr Anschlussmöglichkeiten.

    1.3.1) MONO- UND STEREO-MODUS Mit dem Schieber schalten Sie zwischen beiden Modi um. ANMERKUNG Schalten Sie den Modus niemals während dem Spielen um. In der Regel müs- sen Sie auch die Anschlüsse an Ihrem Verstärker oder der Lautsprecher- box ändern, wenn Sie die Betriebsart der Gitarrenbox umstellen möchten. Schalten Sie Ihren Verstärker auf Standby oder komplett aus, bevor Sie diesen Schalter bedienen.

    2) FRONTGITTER ENTFERNEN Für Reparaturen oder für den Fall, dass Sie Ihr Mikrofon noch näher posi- tionieren möchten, können Sie das Frontgitter entfernen. Das Frontgitter ist mit Klettstreifen befestigt. Eventuell lässt sich das Frontgitter beim ersten Mal nur schwer entfern- en, da es während der Fertigung fest eingesetzt wird: Bei den nächsten Malen lässt sich das Frontgitter dann leichter entfernen.

    3) LAUTSPRECHER EINSETZEN/ AUSTAUSCHEN Führen Sie die folgenden Schritte aus, um einen Lautsprecher einzubauen bzw. auszutauschen: Entfernen Sie das Frontgitter. Kippen und legen Sie die Lautsprecherbox mit dem Rücken auf einer sauberen und gepolsterten Unterlage ab (legen Sie eine Decke oder einen Teppich unter, damit die Rückseite nicht verkratzt und das Anschlussfeld nicht eingedrückt wird).
  • Page 44 Schieben Sie die Flachstecker am Ende der Kabel, die von der An- schlussplatte kommen, vorsichtig auf die Anschlüssen der Lautsprecher. ANMERKUNG Verwenden Sie dabei keine übermäßige Kraft. Falls nötig wackeln Sie etwas am Stecker, bis er passt. Eine der Leitungen des Kabels ist rot gekennzeichnet: Verbinden Sie diese Leitung mit dem mit einem „+“...

    3.1) LAUTSPRECHER ANSCHLIESSEN (212 GITARRENBOX) In der 212 Gitarrenbox gibt es zwei Kabelpaare – jeweils ein Paar pro Lautsprecher. Achten Sie darauf, beide Lautsprecher identisch zu verka- beln (rote Leitung auf „+“). Andernfalls arbeiten die Lautsprecher gegen- phasig und der Sound ist absolut armselig. 3.2) LAUTSPRECHER ANSCHLIESSEN (412 GITARRENBOX) Die 412 Gitarrenbox wird mit zwei zusätzlichen kürzeren Anschlusskabeln ausgeliefert.
  • Page 46 Bei einigen Lautsprechern sind auf beiden Seiten des Korbs Entkopplungs- streifen angebracht, bei anderen befindet sich das Material zur Entkopp- lung nur auf einer Seite. Da die Lautsprecher von vorne in die Palmer Gitarrenboxen eingebaut werden, müssen Sie sicherstellen, dass sie auf der Rückseite entkoppelt sind.
  • Page 47 Befestigen Sie den Lautsprecher mit den mitgelieferten Schrauben in der folgenden Reihenfolge (1 - 4) in der Schallwand. Nachdem alle Schrauben angezogen wurden, ziehen Sie sie nochmals nach. ANMERKUNG Ziehen Sie die Schrauben nicht zu fest an. Verwenden Sie in keinem Fall einen Akku-Schrauber oder ähnliches.
  • Page 48 WICHTIGER HINWEIS In die Schallwand sind vier M5 T-Muttern (Einschlagmuttern) eingelassen. Wenn Sie die Schrauben in die Gewinde einsetzen und anziehen, sollten Sie MINIMALEN DRUCK anwenden! Bei zu hohem Druck auf die Schraube kann die Einschlagmutter eventuell herausgedrückt werden.     Bringen Sie das Frontgitter wieder an. Testen Sie die Gitarrenbox. 3.3) FUNKTIONSKONTROLLE PHASE PRÜFEN Es gibt eine einfache Methode, um zu überprüfen, ob alle Lautsprecher einer Multi-Speaker-Box gleichphasig arbeiten. Sie benötigen dazu ledi- glich eine 9 V Batterie sowie ein Lautsprecherkabel. Schließen Sie das Lautsprecherkabel an der Lautsprecherbox an und berühren Sie mit dem Stecker auf der anderen Seite des Lautsprecherkabels die Pole der 9 V Batterie (mit der Spitze des Steckers den einen Pol und mit dem Massekon-...
  • Page 50 ANMERKUNG Einige Lautsprecher haben eine leichtere Membran, die sich auch dann be- wegt, wenn sich der Luftdruck im Gehäuse verändert. Wenn Sie beispiels- weise den oben beschriebenen Batterietest an einer 412 Gitarrenbox mit Celestion Vintage 30 Speakern ausführen und einen kurzen Impuls auf die Lautsprecher geben, kann es so aussehen, als würden die Lautsprecher un- terschiedlich ausgelenkt.

    4) IMPEDANZ BERECHNEN Es gibt grundsätzliche zwei Möglichkeiten, zwei oder mehrere Lautsprecher zu verkabeln, die wir im Folgenden dargestellt haben: GRUNDSÄTZLICH GILT: Wenn Lautsprecher mit gleicher Impedanz in Serie geschaltet werden, ad- diert sich ihre Impedanz. Beispiel: Vier 8 Ohm Lautsprecher, die in Serie geschaltet sind, haben also Gesamt-Impedanz von 32 Ohm (8 x 4).

    5.2) LAUTSPRECHER-KOMPONENTEN In der Abbildung unten sind die wichtigsten Komponenten eines Lautspre- chers dargestellt. Wenn elektrischer Strom eine Spule (Schwingspule) in einem Magnetfeld durchläuft, wird abhängig von der Stromstärke eine Kraft erzeugt. Durch diese Kraft wird die Membran, die mit der Schwingspule verbunden ist, horizontal in Bewegung versetzt und erzeugt dabei Wellen mit hohem und geringem Luftdruck.
