Disconnect the
top
radiator hose
from the thermostat
housmg

Remove the thermostat
housmg
and thermostat from the
cyhnder
head

Disconnect all hoses
wrres
tubes
and cables
on
the
valve
cover

Remove the mtake mamfold with
the
carburetor

place

Remove the
valve
rocker
cover
9 Loosen the
valve
locknuts and
turn
the
adJusl1ng
screws
out to
disen
gage
the
push
rods Then
evenly
loosen the rocker shaft bolts and
remove
the rocker shaft
as an
assembly

Withdraw the
push
rods and label
them
to
keep
them
10
order
11 Loosen
the
cylmder
head bolts

sequence shown

Lift the head offthe engme If the
head sticks do
not
pry
at gasket
area
Instead
tap
the head
frrrnIy
With
a
large
soft hammer

seal

To Install
Put
a new
cylmder
head
gasket

place
after removmg any residue
left from the old
one
Apply
a
small
amount
of SUItable
gasket
sealer
to
the bottom ofthe
gasket
to
help
locate It
on
the engme block

head bolt

center
of the head
