Depress the brake pedal and push
release button to shift.
Shifts that require you to push the
release button are indicated by
arrows.
Shift freely.
Manual mode
Move selector lever position M.
Press the shift gear button in the side
of the selector lever.
UP (+): to shift up gear.
DOWN (-): to shift down gear.
To maintain the required levels of
vehicle performance and safety, the
system may not execute certain
gearshifts when the selector lever is
operated.
In manual mode, downward shifts are
made automatically when the vehicle
slows down. When the vehicle stops,
1st gear is automatically selected.
Caution
Shift properly according to road
conditions.
Engine braking
To help use the braking effect of
engine compression when driving on
a long downhill select manual mode
downshift to a lower gear in a
sequential order.
Driving and operating
9 Warning
Do not downshift transmission by
two or more gear positions at a
time.
This prevents damage to your
transmission or loss of control and
personal injuries.
Note
Use of engine compression during
long mountainous descents may
prolong the life of your brakes.
Rocking the vehicle
Rocking the vehicle is only
permissible if the vehicle is stuck in
sand, mud or snow.
Move the selector lever between D
and R in a repeat pattern.
Do not race the engine and avoid
sudden acceleration.
Parking
After stopping the vehicle by pressing
the brake pedal, engage P and pull
the parking brake lever up firmly and
then remove ignition key.
