Preparations Carry out the following preparatory steps before you start operating the unit...

Press the | side of the power switch to turn the unit on. Select the paper size The default settings are as follows: A4 size for 220 to 240 V AC, 50 HZ unit, Letter size for 120V AC, 60 Hz unit. Either A4 or letter size may be selected.

The staple mark appears in the display. The collated sets of paper will be stapled (not offset). When the non-staple (offset) mode is selected The staple mark is not shown in the display. The collated sets of paper will be offset (staggered) to the left and right alternatively. When the staple mode is selected in step 4: When the non-staple (offset) mo de is selected in step 4: Press the C mark on the dial (C button) to clear the counter to 0.

The first 5 to 10 sets of paper collated after the installation of the cartridge will not be stapled. Repeat this step until the collated sets of paper are stapled. If any error occurs, the unit will stop automatically. Refer to “checking error messages in After rectifying the error, press the start/stop button.

Adjusting paper alignment This procedure is necessary in the following situations: When the stapled set of the paper is not properly aligned, or When “memory error” appears in the display, requiring the memory to be initialized. (See page 20).

To adjust paper alignment Select a setting between “0” and “4”. First, select “1” as the adjustment value. (“0” is the default and standard setting.) The degree of adjustment becomes larger as the setting number increases. b. To rectify “memory error” Select “format data.”...

Miss feeding or double feeding may occur if the paper is not aligned. • Check that the ink of the printed material is dry. Use only after the ink on the paper has dried completely. Semi-dried ink will not only mesh the machine, but also causes miss feeding problems Stacking error messages in the display If there are any problems starting operation or during operation, first check the messages appearing in the display.

Number (1 to 8) bin Empty / Miss Feed The named (feed) bin doesn’t have any paper or has miss fed. If this has occurred to more than one bin, the display shows all the empty or miss feed bins. Check the named bin and supply of paper in the bin If the checked bin still has paper, miss feeding is the reason for the message.

Pull out any jammed paper If no paper appears stuck inside the door, check the named bin from the right side of the unit. Pull out the jammed paper.

Close the door securely See “door open” on previous page. b. Note – If in the non-staple (offset) mode, removal all the sets on the paper receiver tray before you restart operation. This is because the last collated set before the error has occurred may not be offset to the initial set after restarting.

Motor Overload A sheet of paper may be stuck in the discharging outlet Remove jammed paper. Open the door by pulling the door lever. See step 1 on the previous page. Pull out and remove any paper sticking out behind the discharging outlet. If no paper appears stuck inside the door, check the discharging outlet from the right side of the unit.

Staple empty The staple cartridge is empty. This message appears only in the staple mode. Replace the cartridge with a new one. Open the door by pulling the door lever. See step 1 on page 17. Remove the empty staple cartridge by pulling it down and out. Remove the stopper of the new staple cartridge.

Check the direction of the cartridge with the illustration. Close the door securely. See “door open” on page 16. Stapler Trouble / Stapler Overload A staple is jammed in the stapler. Remove the jammed staple. Open the door by pulling the door lever. See step 1 on page 17.

Replace the metallic knob by pressing it up until it clicks. Replace the staple cartridge. See step 3 “staple empty”. Close the door securely See “door open” on page 16. Check the display to ascertain that the unit has recovered from the error. If the same error message still appears in the display after completely removing the jammed staple, please contact your nearest dealer.

If the same error message still appears in the display after completely removing all obstructions, please contact your nearest dealer. Memory Error Some error has occurred in the internal memory. Initialize the memory. Open the door, then close it. The error message disappears. See step 1 on page 17, and “door open”...

Cleaning the feed rollers and paper separators Before cleaning any components, be sure to turn off the unit and disconnect the AC power cord from the wall outlets. Remove all eight feed bins from unit. Push up the feed bin...

b. Then pull it toward you. Note – Do not pull too hard, as this may lead to damage to the feed bin holder or feed bin. Press the feed shaft to the left to detach the right edge of the shaft, then remove it (#2) Remove all remaining (seven) feed shafts.

Fit the left end of the feed shaft into the left feed shaft holder. b. Press the feed shaft to the left and match the right end of the shaft to the right shaft holder, then release. Rotate the feed shaft manually until it firmly meshes with the feed shaft holder (#4). d.

Replace the feed bins. Follow step 6 in “preparations’ on page 7 Replacing paper separators Please contact your nearest dealer to purchase new paper separators Before replacing any components, be sure to turn off the unit and disconnect the AC power cord from the wall outlet.

Replace with a new paper separator. Insert the new paper separator into the forward side of the separator holder first, then fit it in place. b. Be sure to place the unmarked (front) side facing up.

Smooth the feed roller by rolling the feed shaft back and forth several times on a flat surface. Replace the feed shafts and feed bins Follow steps 5 and 6 on page 22.
