7.8 Demand Regulator &
Exhaust System Overhaul
Preliminary:
The exhaust system and dewatering valves are made
of high grade silicone. The exhaust and dewatering
valves are very durable and resilient however they
should be replaced at least once a year or whenever
inspection reveals any signs of damage or deteriora-
tion.
All o-rings should be replaced at least once a year
or whenever damage/deterioration is present or sus-
pected. In order to replace the main exhaust valve,
the demand regulator must be removed from the
helmet. Removing the regulator is not difficult if
these instructions are followed.

7.8.1 System Disassembly

1) Using two 13/16" wrenches, loosen the bent tube
at the inlet nipple, then loosen the side block end of
the bent tube with an 11/16" wrench and remove the
bent tube.
2) Loosen and remove the four whisker screws, kid-
ney plates, and spacers. Take care not to loose the
spacers.
3) Wrap a piece of cloth around the nose block knob
and loosen with pliers, then use a 7/16" open end
wrench to loosen and remove the nose block pack-
ing nut, then remove the nose block device .
4) Remove the two packing nut o-rings that seal the
nose block packing nut.
5) Pull the oral nasal mask from the mount nut, re-
move the microphone and oral nasal valve assembly
from the oral nasal mask.
Remove the screws that secure the kidney plates
and whiskers.

Remove the oral/nasal mask after removing the
nose block device.
Remove the regulator mount nut.
