    Model SCH-1 Heater Personal Safety To prevent injury follow these instructions. Do not operate or service equipment unless you are qualified. Do not operate equipment unless safety guards, doors, or covers are intact and automatic interlocks are operating properly. Do not bypass or disarm any safety devices.

    Model SCH-1 Heater High-Pressure Fluids High-pressure fluids, unless they are safely contained, are extremely hazardous. Always relieve fluid pressure before adjusting or servicing high pressure equipment. A jet of high-pressure fluid can cut like a knife and cause serious bodily injury, amputation, or death. Fluids penetrating the skin can also cause toxic poisoning.

    Model SCH-1 Heater See Figure 1. The Nordson SCH-1 heater is an electrically operated, 2. Description digitally controlled high-pressure fluid heater designed for use with the Select Coat system. Maximum operating pressure is 241 bar (3500 psi), although the Select Coat system requires much lower operating pressures below 5.9 bar (85 psi).

    Model SCH-1 Heater Theory of Operation The following paragraphs describe the operation of the SCH-1 heater. The Heater See Figure 2. Fluid enters the input port and flows into the fluid passage body (2) within the fluid-heating reservoir. The heater cartridge (3) heats the fluid passage body, which is spiral grooved.

    It is electrically connected to a RTD in the fluid passage body. Refer to Operation for a description of the various LEDs and keys on the temperature controller.     WARNING: Inspect and maintain fire detection systems and interlocks daily. NOTE: The SCH-1 Heater is primarily used with the Select Coat system. If you are using this heater with another system, contact your Nordson representative for operation procedures.

    Model SCH-1 Heater Pressurizing the System WARNING: Do not operate the heater until the fluid delivery system is fully pressurized and circulating. If fluid does not circulate properly, heat can build up and may cause solvents to flash to vapor. This could result in an explosion.

    Model SCH-1 Heater Shutdown Follow these steps to shutdown the SCH-1 heater 1. Remove power from the heater 10–15 minutes before shutting down the system by pressing the Heat button on the front panel of the workcell or using the rear-mounted switch on the conveyorized workcell.

    Model SCH-1 Heater Fluid Heating Reservoir Installation 1. Install the fluid-heating reservoir to the electrical enclosure. Use Teflon paste on threads to prevent galling. Tighten securely. 2. Make sure the holes for the setscrews are aligned. Back the fluid-heating reservoir out by no more than one turn to align holes.

    Model SCH-1 Heater Fluid Passage Body 1. Remove the retaining rings from the fluid passage body. 2. Place a wooden block on a hard surface. Grasping the reservoir assembly firmly, strike the top of the surface of the fluid passage body against the wood block until the lower O-ring is exposed.

    Model SCH-1 Heater Assembly See Figure 10. Follow this procedure to assemble the fluid pressure reservoir. 1. Install a new O-ring at the top of the fluid passage body. 2. Slide the high-pressure housing onto the fluid passage body high enough to provide access to install the lower O-ring.
