Replacing the microSD Card / Battery

To replace the microSD card or battery you must remove the battery cover (or the back plate on New Nintendo 3DS).
Note:
If the system is used by a young child, a parent or legal guardian should replace the battery for them.
Always turn the power off and disconnect the AC adapter before replacing the battery.
microSD Cards
The microSD card stores data such as downloadable software and its save data, add-on data and add-on content, photos and videos.
This system supports microSD cards up to 2 GB in size and microSDHC cards with sizes ranging from 4 GB to 32 GB.
Note:
With the exception of Nintendo DSiWare
( p.
5), all downloaded software is stored on the microSD card.
Downloaded software (including its save data) cannot be moved or copied individually between microSD cards.
See p. 64 on what to do once a microSD card is full.
Battery
Repeated charging will decrease battery life and reduce the length of time you can use the system before recharging. If usage time is noticeably
reduced, replace the battery using the procedure detailed below.
Please contact Nintendo Customer Service for further information on how to purchase a replacement ( p. 74).
Unscrew the battery cover (back plate)

Use a cross-head screwdriver to loosen the two screws securing the battery cover.
Note: Using the wrong type of screwdriver may damage the head of the screw, leaving
you unable to remove the battery cover.
Remove the battery cover (back plate)

with the stylus
Insert the top of the stylus in between the battery cover and the
system, and prise the two carefully apart.
Note:
Do not insert your fingernails in between the battery cover and the
system, as this could result in injury.
Do not use excessive force, as this could result in damage to your
system and/or the battery cover.

Note: Do not touch the microSD card terminals or get them
dirty.

Replace the battery cover (back plate), and tighten the two screws
After removing the battery, the date and time settings will be reset. You should set them again by opening System Settings from the
HOME Menu, selecting OTHER SETTINGS and then DATE & TIME
Note: Always replace the battery cover. If the system is subjected to a shock while the battery cover is off, the battery could be damaged leading
to fire or explosion.
Battery Disposal
Apply some tape over the positive (+) and negative (–) connectors.
Do not remove the label.
Do not attempt to disassemble the battery.
Do not damage the battery.
This system contains a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Please dispose of this product in accordance with local regulations.
Discarding batteries in your general household waste can be harmful to the environment. When disposing of the battery, follow appropriate local
guidelines and regulations.
Remove battery
Wait at least 10 seconds, then insert new battery
Note: Ensure that the battery is facing in the right direction.
