Chapter 1 Product Information 1-1 Product Introduction Thank you for purchasing this Wireless 11n Compact Storage Server. This Compact Storage Server lets you easily share your files in your network. Simply plug your external hard disk to the Compact Storage Server, connect the LAN port to your network, and do some basic settings, and you're ready to share files.

Here are some notes regarding the performance of your device. For the best disk performance, please follow the wizard to format your disk into either FAT32 or EXT2 file system.

This is a step-by-step instruction on how to start using the NS-1500n 1. Plug your USB hard disk to the USB port of the NS-1500n. If your USB hard disk has external power adapter, please make sure that the external power adapter is plugged and is supplying power to your USB hard disk.

3. Plug the power adaptor to the NS-1500n as shown in the setup diagram below. 4. When the Storage LED is steady lit, the NS-1500n is ready.
3-2 Software Installation 1. Insert the Storage Server Wizard utility CD into your PC. The Installation program of the Storage Server utilities will be executed automatically. If the Installation program is not executed, please execute it manually. 2. Click “Next” to continue.

3. Select “Administrator Tool” and click “Next” to install Administrator Tool wizard utility. 4. The installation program starts to install the Storage Server Wizard utilities. 5. Click “Finish” when the installation is finished.

6. After the installation, there are three utilities installed: Download Manager, NetDisk Explorer and Storage Server Management Wizard. They are located under “Start All Programs Edimax” shown as the following picture.
Chapter 4 Getting Start Your Compact Storage Server The Installation program will start Storage Server Management Wizard automatically after the installation is finished. 4-1 Auto-search for Storage Server When the Storage Server Management Wizard starts, all Storage Servers in your local area network will be listed. Select the Storage Server you want to configure, and click “Next”.

4-5 Configure Password of Administrator Enter a new administrator’s password for the Storage Server, and click “Next”, or just click “Next” directly to keep the current password. Click “Exit” to abort configuration, and all the modification you did will not be applied.
4-6 Configure Network Setting The wizard will detect your network environment and searching for an available IP address for the Storage Server. After the detection, the wizard will provide a suggested IP address setting to you. You can apply it or modify it based on your requirement. 4-8 Choose the Functions You Want to Turn On Select the functions you want to turn on, and click “Next”. Click “Exit” to abort configuration, and all the modification you did will not be applied. Parameters Description Turn on BT Whether to turn on BT download function.
4-9 Add User Accounts If you select “Auto-Build Disks & Create Shared Folders” or “Clear & Rebuild All Disks” in the previous step, you can create user account for the Storage Server. Click “Add” to add a user account. Fill in the user name and password and assign a hard disk drive to create the home directory for the user.

4-10 Configure Time and Time Zone Select the time zone of the area you are living in, and click “Next”. Click “Exit” to abort configuration, and all the modification you did will not be applied. The Storage Server Wizard will start to apply configuration to your Storage Server. Please wait for a while. After the configuration is completed, the Storage Server will restart.

After the Storage Server restarts, the following window shows. Click “Finish”. You can start to use the Storage Server.
Chapter 5 Start using the Storage Server 5-1 Start Using Download Manager You can select “Start All Programs Edimax Download Manager” to start Download Manager. 5-1-1 Search for Storage Server After you start Download Manager, Download Manager will scan your network for all available storage servers and list them to you.

NetDisk Explorer is a storage server client utility which provides users the best experience in using the Network Storage Server. NetDisk Explorer is located under “Start All Programs Edimax NetDisk Explorer” shown as the following picture. All available storage servers will be listed in the pop-up window. Select your newly setup storage server and click “Connect”.

Video: The folder “Video” is located under the “Public_hdd1\Media” folder, so the folder “video” is also anonymously accessible by FTP and Windows My Network Places (Samba) with reading and writing privilege. The video files in “Video” folder can be accessed by DLNA compliant media adapters like Sony PS3, Xbox 360…etc.
