    Chapter 1 Product Information 1-1 Product Introduction Thank you for purchasing this Wireless 11n Compact Storage Server. This Compact Storage Server lets you easily share your files in your network. Simply plug your external hard disk to the Compact Storage Server, connect the LAN port to your network, and do some basic settings, and you're ready to share files.
  • Page 6 Maximum 3.5” USB HDD x 1 (Capacity: up to 2TB) Performance Notes: We've packed a lot of neat functionality into a small, affordable package with this Wireless 11n Compact Storage Server. Here are some notes regarding the performance of your device. For the best disk performance, please follow the wizard to format your disk into either FAT32 or EXT2 file system.

    Power Jack Release/R.T.D Button 1) LAN Port You should connect the LAN port of the NS-1500n to your hub/switch, or one LAN port of your router etc. 2) Power Jack Plug the power adapter of the NS-1500n. 3) Release/R.T.D Button Press this button release it immediately, the system will release the external USB hard disk attached to the storage server.

    This is a step-by-step instruction on how to start using the NS-1500n 1. Plug your USB hard disk to the USB port of the NS-1500n. If your USB hard disk has external power adapter, please make sure that the external power adapter is plugged and is supplying power to your USB hard disk.
  • Page 11 3. Plug the power adaptor to the NS-1500n as shown in the setup diagram below. 4. When the Storage LED is steady lit, the NS-1500n is ready.

    3-2 Software Installation 1. Insert the Storage Server Wizard utility CD into your PC. The Installation program of the Storage Server utilities will be executed automatically. If the Installation program is not executed, please execute it manually. 2. Click “Next” to continue.
  • Page 13 3. Select “Administrator Tool” and click “Next” to install Administrator Tool wizard utility. 4. The installation program starts to install the Storage Server Wizard utilities. 5. Click “Finish” when the installation is finished.

    Chapter 4 Getting Start Your Compact Storage Server The Installation program will start Storage Server Management Wizard automatically after the installation is finished. 4-1 Auto-search for Storage Server When the Storage Server Management Wizard starts, all Storage Servers in your local area network will be listed. Select the Storage Server you want to configure, and click “Next”.

    4-6 Configure Network Setting The wizard will detect your network environment and searching for an available IP address for the Storage Server. After the detection, the wizard will provide a suggested IP address setting to you. You can apply it or modify it based on your requirement. Parameters Description The Storage Server Name must be 4-15 characters. Only alphanumeric and underline characters can be Storage Server used.

    4-9 Add User Accounts If you select “Auto-Build Disks & Create Shared Folders” or “Clear & Rebuild All Disks” in the previous step, you can create user account for the Storage Server. Click “Add” to add a user account. Fill in the user name and password and assign a hard disk drive to create the home directory for the user.

    NetDisk Explorer is a storage server client utility which provides users the best experience in using the Network Storage Server. NetDisk Explorer is located under “Start All Programs Edimax NetDisk Explorer” shown as the following picture. All available storage servers will be listed in the pop-up window. Select your newly setup storage server and click “Connect”.
