Error Codes

Turning on the radio starts a self-test routine that checks the radio functionality. If the checks are
successful, the radio generates two high-pitched self-test pass tones, or a musical tone (selected in
CPS). If the self-test is not successful, one low-pitched tone is heard. Radios with displays are able
to display the error codes. The displayed error codes and related corrections are listed in Table 7-1.

non-existence of codeplug.
Channel frequency invalid for radio

Channel frequency outside allowed
range or invalid channel number for
channel frequency plan.
RAM test failure

Radio hardware failure.
Display module is not connected.
Display module faulty.

POWER UP SELF-TEST

To correct the problem...
Reprogram codeplug with correct spacings.
Reprogram codeplug with correct version
and retest radio.
If message reoccurs, replace main board or
return it to the nearest Motorola depot.
Reprogram codeplug with correct
frequency and channel range.
Reprogram codeplug with valid
frequencies/channels.
Turn radio off-on.
If message reoccurs replace main board or
return it to the nearest Motorola depot.
Reprogram codeplug with valid personality.
Turn radio off then on.
If message reoccurs replace main board or
return it to the nearest Motorola depot.
Turn radio off then on.
If message reoccurs replace main board or
return it to the nearest Motorola depot.
Turn radio off-on.
If message reoccurs replace main board or
return it to the nearest Motorola depot.
Check connection between main board and
the display module.
Replace display module.
Turn radio off then on.
If tone still sounds reprogram codeplug and
retest. If tone continues to sound replace
the main board or return it to the nearest
Motorola depot.
