cause fuel pump components to become
magnetized and attract metal debris.
5. Remove the distribution shaft (Figure 5-26).
7. Note the position of the coolant fitting
(Figure 5-28, (3)) and remove the coolant plug
(Figure 5-28,
(I)),
gasket (Figure 5-28, (2))
and fitting. Remove the thermo-element
assembly (Figure 5-28, (4)), which includes the
timer piston (Figure 5-28, (5)), timer piston
return spring (Figure 5-28, (6)) timer housing
(Figure 5-28, (7)), gaskets (Figure 5-28, (8))
and seal (Figure 5-28, (9)).

6. Remove the plunger and barrel plug
(Figure 5-27, (I)), O-ring (Figure 5-27, (2))
and copper seal (Figure 5-27, (3)).
