Tuning Your Flute or Piccolo
• Pitch is affected by temperature, so warm up the
instrument before playing by blowing air through it.
• To tune, pull headjoint slightly away from the
body. The length you pull the headjoint out
depends on individual preference and method
of playing.
Caring for the Interior
of Your Flute or Piccolo
Cleaning the Body and Pads
• Insert the corner of a clean cotton cloth through
the small hole at the top of the cleaning rod.
Wrap cloth around the rod (YAC 1660P - piccolo;
YAC 1661P - flute), making sure no metal parts
are exposed.
• Insert gently into foot (for flute), body and head-
joints individually, and twist.
Caring for the Exterior
of Your Flute or Piccolo
• For daily care, wipe the
entire length of the body
with a polishing cloth
(YAC 1099P), being care-
ful not to apply pressure
to the keys. Wipe down
the keys, taking care not
to scratch them or damage the pads.
• Silver-plated instruments should be polished using a
specially treated cloth (YAC 1096P).
• When drying a pad,
insert cleaning paper
(YAC 1095P) between
it and the tone hole
and press down lightly,
carefully pulling the
paper away.
