Head   S ystem  
The   J /105   i s   e quipped   w ith   o ne   c ertified   R aritan   P HII   m arine   h ead   w hich   i s   c apable   o f  
discharging   e ffluents   i nto   t he   s tandard   4 5   l iter   ( 12   g allon)   h olding   t ank   o r   o verboard.     T he  
system   i s   e asy   t o   o perate   a nd   w ith   c orrect   u sage   a nd   p roper   m aintenance,   w ill   p rovide   m any  
years   o f   u se.     I MPORTANT   -­‐   O wners   s hould   f amiliarize   t hemselves   w ith   a ll   l ocal   a nd   f ederal  
regulations   r egarding   p roper   d ischarge   a nd   a void   i nadvertent   d ischarge   a t   a ll   t imes.     A   Y -­‐valve   i s  
fitted   t o   t he   d ischarge   l ine   i n   o rder   t o   d irect   t he   d ischarge   f low   t o   e ither   t he   h olding   t ank   o r  
overboard.     I t   i s   s hipped   f rom   t he   f actory   b olted   i nto   p lace   s uch   t hat   t he   f low   d efaults   i nto   t he  
holding   t ank.      
Before   o perating   t he   H EAD,   e nsure   y ou   h ave   r ead   i ts   m anual   t horoughly   a nd   u nderstand   t he  
proper   p rocedures.     S illy   m istakes   c an   c ause   s evere   " head"   a ches   a t   t he   w orst   p ossible   t ime!.   A nd

The   h ead   i s   a   l arge   p ump   w hich   t akes   i n   s eawater   a nd   f lushes   w aste   i nto   t he   h olding   t ank   o r  
overboard.     T he   w ater   i ntake   s eacock   i s   l ocated   u nder   t he   V   B erth,   a nd   t he   d ischarge   s eacock   i s  
under   t he   h ead   s ink.     R emember   t he   o pen/closed   p ositions   o n   t hese   t hru-­‐hulls.     I t   i s   g ood  
seamanship   t o   c lose   b oth   t he   i ntake   a nd   d ischarge   s eacock   w hen   n ot   i n   u se.  
When   s eawater   a nd   e ffluent   a re   p umped   t hrough   t he   h ead,   t hey're   p umped   i nto   t he   h olding   t ank  
by   t he   a ction   o f   p umping   t he   t oilet   h andle.     T he   w aste   d ischarge   f itting   o n   d eck   i s   p rovided   s o   a  
Shoreside   p ump-­‐out   s tation   c an   e mpty   t he   t ank.   C are   s hould   b e   t aken   n ot   t o   o verfill   t he   h olding  
tank   a s   e ffluent   c an   b lock   t he   v ent   h ose   a nd   m ay   d amage   t he   t ank...   o r   w orse,   b urst   t he   h ose.     I f  
the   t oilet   i s   d ifficult   t o   p ump,   c heck   t o   s ee   i f   t he   h olding   t ank   i s   o verfilled.     " When   i n   d oubt,   p ump
