    How it operates The heat pump operates by transferring the energy from the ambient outside air into the water. Electricity is used to operate the system, but not to heat the water, so less electricity is used. The Rinnai hot water heat pump is made up of two separate components; a heat pump and a water storage tank.

    Turning the system off and on Turning the water heating system off If you plan to be away for only a few nights, we suggest you leave the water heating system switched on. If it is necessary to switch it off, switch off the electric power supply to the heat pump unit. Do not turn the power off to the heat pump unit if snow or frost conditions are expected as components in the system may be damaged by freezing.

    General information Defrosting function The heat pump has an inbuilt defrosting function. This requires power to prevent damage in freezing conditions. DO NOT disconnect the power if there is a likelihood of freezing without draining the unit.
