Recording Time and Video Lengths

Time required for recording
When recording video, the length of time required for recording depends on the REC mode setting (FH,
XP, HQ, SP, or LP) used to shoot the video and the number of scenes the video contains. Typically, more
time is required to record videos onto a disc if the video was recorded with a higher image quality (bit
rate) setting. The chart below provides a general estimate of time required to record.
Recording HD (High Definition) video
(Time required to copy a 1-hour video in SP mode on a disc)
Camcorder connected via a USB
cable (Media other than 8cm disc)
approx. 15 minutes
Recording SD (Standard Definition) video
(Time required to copy a 1-hour video in SP mode on a disc)
Camcorder connected via a USB
cable (Media other than 8cm disc)
approx. 15 minutes
z Hint
• When a camcorder is connected to the DV IN, VIDEO IN or S VIDEO IN connector on the DVDirect, the length of
time required for recording is the same as the playback time of the video.
