following these steps:

Remove your iPad/iPhone/iPod from the dock/USB dockand check for
obstruction on the connectors in the dock and on your iPad/iPhone/iPod.
Then reseat it in the dock. Also try removing any case or "skin" on your
device that may be preventing proper contact.
