6-1. STARTING A COLD ENGINE (Put unit on
the ground before starting see fig. 6-1E)
NOTE: To minimize load on engine during starting and
warm-up, trim excess cutter line to 5" (13cm) (Figure 6-1A).
1. Move on/off ignition switch to the "RUN (I) " position.
(Figure 6-1B)
2. Prime the carburetor. Pump the primer bulb (A) 10
times (Figure 6-1C).
3. Your unit is designed with a 3 position choke: FULL
CHOKE " ", PARTIAL CHOKE "
Move choke lever to FULL CHOKE "
6-1D). Grasp throttle handle firmly while depressing
safety trigger and squeeze throttle trigger to FULL posi-
tion and pull starter rope briskly 6 times. (Fig. 6-1E)
NOTE:
Smooth Pull starting requires much less
effort than units without Smooth Pull. Pull with a smooth
steady pull. Pull starter rope out a short way until resist-
ance is felt (approximately 4") (Figure 6-1E). A smooth
rapid pull is required for a strong spark.
4. Move choke lever to PARTIAL CHOKE "
then pull starter rope 6 times. (Figure 6-1F)
5. Warm up 10 sec in idle then move choke lever to RUN
" " position. (Figure 6-1G)
NOTE: Don't release trigger while pulling starter rope in
steps 3 to 5.
6. If engine fails to start, repeat steps 1 through 5.
NOTE: If engine fails to start after repeated attempts, refer
to Troubleshooting section.
NOTE: Always pull starter rope straight out. Pulling starter
at an angle will cause rope to rub against the eyelet. This
friction will cause the rope to fray and wear more quickly.
Always hold starter handle when rope retracts. Never allow
rope to snap back from extended position. This could cause
rope to snag or fray and also damage the starter assembly.
