Guide for Voice Recognition
Before you begin
This manual explains how you can use the Sony
Digital Voice Editor software and the IC recorder
together with Dragon NaturallySpeaking- speech
recognition software.
For information on using the IC recorder and
Digital Voice Editor, refer to their instruction
manuals and help.
For information on using Dragon
NaturallySpeaking, refer to the documentation
supplied with the software.
II Notes
• You can use this feature only when you have Dragon
NaturallySpeaking Recorder Edition or Dragon Naturally
Speaking version 5.0 (or higher) Preferred or Professional
Edition installed on your computer.
• To install Dragon NaturallySpeaking, your computer and
system sohware must meet the system requirements of
Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

What you can do with Dragon
NaturallySpeaking together
with Digital Voice Editor
With Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech
recognition software installed on your computer,
you can use the Digital Voice Editor to transfer the
messages recorded on the IC recorder onto your
computer's hard disk and then link it to Dragon
NaturallySpeaking software to transcribe the
messages.
II Notes
• You can transcribe the follOWing messages recorded in
your IC recorder or files saved in your PC hard disk only:
- For ICD-SX700/5X800: the LPCM, MP3, LPEC 5THQ,
LPEC ST, LPEC STLP and LPEC SP mode messages.
- For ICD-PX720: The SHQ HQ and SP mode messages.
• You cannot transcribe a message recording voices of
multiple persons.
Getting Started: Creating
a user file adapted to your
recorded speech (Training
Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
What is "Training"?
Before you can transcribe recorded messages
using Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you need to
create a user file specifically adapted to the sound
of your recorded speech. This procedure is called
"training':
When training is complete, Dragon
NaturallySpeaking creates a user speech file
containing information about your recorded
speech.
Follow the procedure in "Training"to proceed with
the training.
Refer to the help supplied with Dragon
NaturallySpeaking.

Tips on using the
Ie
recorder
When transcribing the messages recorded using
the IC recorder, the following tips will help you
obtain maximum recognition accuracy.
For details on the IC recorder operations, refer to
the operating instructions supplied with the IC
recorder.
• Set the recording mode on the IC recorder that
supports voice recognition. For training, use the
recording mode you usually use in transcribing
a message:
- For ICD-SX700/SX800: Set "REC MODE" to the
LPCM 44/16, LPCM 22/16, MP3 192k, MP3 128k,
MP3 48k, LPEC STHQ, LPEC ST, LPEC STLP or
LPEC SP mode.
- For ICD-PX720: Set "MODE" to the SHQ, HQ or
SP mode.
• Use the menu to set the microphone sensitivities.
- For ICD-SX700/SX800: Set "REC LEVEL" to "LOW

• Hold the IC recorder so that the microphone is
about an inch
(2 -
3 cm) from the corner of your
mouth, not directly in front of it. This minimizes
the sound of your breath in the recordings,
enabling maximum recognition accuracy.
II Note
Avoid recording in anoisy place, in order to obtain
maximum recognition accuracy.
