Problem
Workpiece
Workpiece is difficult to cut.
Workpiece "burns" during
cut.
Accuracy of Cut
Cut is not square or not at the
indicated angle.
Miter cut is not at the indi-
cated angle.
Blade wanders away from
the pattern line.

Possible Cause
Blade clogged with pitch, dull, or worn.
Workpiece too thick for blade being used.
Stock dense and hard.
Blade worn or dull.
Letting blade dwell in one spot.
Cutting corner too small for blade.
Auto-stop or tilt indicator out of alignment.
Miter gauge improperly aligned.
Miter gauge slots not aligned with flat of blade.
Workpiece slipped while cutting.
Fence slipped during cut.
Blade "leads".
Table not square to flat of blade.
Blade guides not properly aligned.
Knots or wood grain deflect blade.
Blade "leads".
Cutting corner too tight for blade.
Failure to guide work accurately.
Solution
Clean, resharpen, or replace blade.
Use wider blade.
This is normal.
Resharpen or replace blade.
Keep workpiece moving.
Make relief cuts or use narrower blade.
Square table to blade. Re-align auto-
stop and tilt indicator.
Re-align miter gauge.
Loosen trunnion bolts and re-align
table.
Hold workpiece securely.
Be sure fence is locked in place. Use
paper in miter slot to help hold fence.
Adjust fence and feed stock at slight
angle, hone blade to correct lead, or
replace blade.
Square table to blade. Re-align auto-
stop and tilt indicator.
Re-align blade guides.
Feed stock more slowly.
Feed stock at slight angle.
Make relief cuts or use narrower blade.
Take your time.
