TOWING
6-SPEED AUTOMATIcS
Tundra's available 6-speed automatic
transmissions offer a wide gear range
for responsive acceleration at low- and
mid-range rpm. First gear's extremely
low ratio is ideal for serious towing.
And there's no need to choose from a
variety of rear axles: Tundra's available
4.300 rear axle ratio

works seamlessly
with the transmission gear range to
optimize performance.
TRANSMISSION cOOLING SySTEM
Our available 5.7L V8 6-speed automatic
transmission powertrain comes with
an Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
Warmer, improving performance on cold
start-ups. And when the towing gets
tough, the available Tow Package helps
cut heat buildup with supplemental
coolers for the transmission fluid, the
engine oil and the power steering fluid.
DRIVE SHAFT
Regular Cab Long Bed, Double Cab and
CrewMax models use a 2-piece drive
shaft. The front section is steel, while
the rear section is aluminum. Using
aluminum reduces rotational mass
for enhanced acceleration and drops
Tundra's unsprung weight, cutting down
on vibration, noise and harshness.

MASSIVE RING GEAR
If there's a weak link on most pickup trucks, it's usually the ring gear in the rear differential. It's
where push comes to shove under the stresses of heavy loads. To handle the massive torque
of Tundra's available 5.7L V8, our engineers matched it with a massive 10.5-in. ring gear.
Tundra differentials also benefit from a ring-and-pinion gear-cut process called face hob
gear-cutting, which results in a stronger gear tooth that's able to handle increased torque.

TRIPLETEcH
The name TripleTech™ refers to the
different types of engineering employed
on each of Tundra's three frame sections.
Up front the frame is fully boxed
rigid support of the engine. Under the
cab a reinforced C design
a blend of rigidity and flexibility. Under
the bed an open C design

big payloads. The TripleTech™ design
