The machine (always excellent until this problem) now cuts out almost immediately, with red light on, despite the water container having only just been emptied. I cannot see anything different from normal, so I suspect that it may be a faulty electrical component somewhere.

The Ecoair ECO DD122FW SIMPLE MK2 may be cutting out immediately with a red light on, even after emptying the water container, due to the following possible reasons:

1. Water Bucket Not Fitted Correctly – Ensure the water bucket is properly placed in its position. If it is not installed correctly, the unit will not operate, and the "FULL" light may remain on.
2. Sensor or Float Issue – The unit has a sensor that detects when the bucket is full. If the float mechanism inside the bucket is stuck or misaligned, the sensor may still detect it as full.
3. Blocked or Dirty Silver Nano Filter – A clogged filter can restrict airflow and affect performance. Cleaning the filter may help restore normal operation.
4. Internal Fault – If the above steps do not resolve the issue, there could be an internal fault with the sensor or another component, requiring professional inspection or service.

Check these factors to troubleshoot the problem.

Thank you very much for your most helpful advice. I've now given the dehumidifier a really thorough clean, going through all of the points you mention, and the machine now seems to work as it should - fingers very much crossed! It's good to have it back in action, particularly with the amount of rain we had on Sunday...

TROUBLESHOOTING Smell coming from the dehumidifier When you first use the dehumidifier and periodically afterwards you might notice a smell coming from the dehumidifier. This is caused by the Zeolite desiccant material and is not a sign that the dehumidifier is faulty, nor is it harmful to humans or pets. The smell occurs because the Zeolite absorbs odours from items like cigarettes, cosmetics, hair sprays, building materials and new furniture and then when the desiccant is heated the smell is discharged into the room.
