INSTALLING DUST BAG ASSEMBLy
See Figure 4, page 11.
WARNING:
To prevent the possibility of sanding dust or foreign
objects being thrown into your face or eyes, never attempt
to use the sander without the dust bag assembly properly
installed. Sanding dust or foreign objects being thrown
into your face could result in possible serious injury.
 Unplug the sander.
 Insert dust bag adaptor into dust exhaust.
 Push in on adaptor until raised notches on top and bot-
tom of adaptor snap into grooves in dust exhaust.
 Attach dust bag to adaptor.
NOTE: For more efficient operation, empty dust bag when no
more than half full. This will permit the air to flow through the
bag better. Always empty and clean dust bag thoroughly when
finished sanding operation and before storing sander.
ATTACHING VACUUM HOSE ADAPTOR
See Figure 5, page 12.
A 1-1/4 in. vacuum hose adaptor is packed with the sander.
This adaptor easily attaches to the sander if you decide to
connect the sander to a vacuum.
To attach:
 Unplug the sander.
 Remove dust bag assembly from sander. To remove,
grasp adaptor and pull straight out.
 Insert vacuum hose adaptor into dust exhaust.
 Push in on adaptor until raised notch on top and bottom
of adaptor snap into groove in dust exhaust.
 Snugly attach vacuum hose adaptor to vacuum hose.
 Connect vacuum hose to cleaner.
OPERATING THE SANDER
See Figure 6, page 12.
WARNING:
Clamp or otherwise secure work to prevent it from moving
under the sander. Failure to do so could result in unse-
cured work being thrown towards the operator resulting
in possible serious injury.
OPERATION
Hold the sander in front and away from you, keeping it clear
of the workpiece. Start the sander by sliding the switch
button to the on position and letting the motor build to its
maximum speed. Gradually lower the sander on the work
with a slight forward movement. Move it slowly using forward
and backward strokes.
Do not force. The weight of the unit supplies adequate pres-
sure, so let the sandpaper and sander do the work. Apply-
ing additional pressure only slows the motor, rapidly wears
sandpaper and greatly reduces sander speed. Excessive
pressure will overload the motor causing possible damage
from motor overheating and can result in inferior work. Any
finish or resin on wood may soften from the frictional heat.
Do not allow sanding on one spot too long as the sander's
rapid action may remove too much material, making the
surface uneven.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to let your hand cover the air vents.
ORBITAL MOTION
See Figure 7, page 12.
Orbital motion is ideal for fast cutting action when removing
old finishes, smoothing rough wood, cutting stock down to
required dimensions, or for finishing surfaces to be painted.
As shown in figure 7, the sandpaper moves in tiny circles at
a very high speed, allowing the sander to move easily.
FLUSH SANDING
See Figure 8, page 12.
Flush sanding can be performed with the sander. Every side
except the rear of the sander allows flush sanding in corners.
Always remove sander from workpiece before turning off.
REMOVING AND EMPTyING DUST BAG
See Figure 9, page 12.
WARNING:
Collected sanding dust from sanding surface coatings
such as polyurethanes, linseed oil, etc. can self-ignite
in the sander dust bag or elsewhere and cause fire. To
reduce the risk of fire, always empty the dust bag fre-
quently while sanding and never store or leave a sander
without totally emptying its dust bag. Also follow the
recommendations of the coatings manufacturers.
