    Instrument Cluster WARNING LIGHTS AND CHIMES Warning lights and gauges can alert you to a vehicle condition that may become serious enough to cause expensive repairs. A warning light may illuminate when a problem exists with one of your vehicle’s functions. Many lights will illuminate when you start your vehicle to make sure the bulb works.

Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration and deceleration) and have your vehicle serviced immediately by your authorized dealer. If the light remains ON while driving, the temperature of the engine may be too high, refer to Engine coolant in the Maintenance and Specifications chapter.

    Instrument Cluster Key-in-ignition warning chime: Sounds when the key is left in the ignition in the OFF/LOCK or ACCESSORY position and the driver’s door is opened. Headlamps on warning chime: Sounds when the headlamps or parking lamps are on, the ignition is off (the key is not in the ignition) and the driver’s door is opened.
  • Page 18 Instrument Cluster Engine coolant temperature gauge: Indicates engine coolant temperature. At normal operating temperature, the needle will be in the normal range (between “H” and “C”). If it enters the red section, the engine is overheating, refer to Engine coolant in the Maintenance and Specifications chapter.
  • Page 19 Instrument Cluster Fuel gauge: Indicates approximately how much fuel is left in the fuel tank (when the ignition is in the ON position). The fuel gauge may vary slightly when the vehicle is in motion or on a grade. Refer to Filling the tank in the Maintenance and Specifications chapter for more information.

    Entertainment Systems AUDIO SYSTEMS Quick start — How to get going Listening to the radio 1. If the audio system is off, press VOL-PUSH to turn the radio on. Turn VOL-PUSH to adjust the volume. Note: The system may take a few moments to turn on.

Press SEEK, SEEK access the previous or next satellite channel. You may also seek by music category. When the display reads LOAD CD#, load the desired disc, label side up. If you do not choose a slot within 5 seconds, the system will choose for you.

When a CD or DVD is playing in the FES system, press this control to play or pause the current CD/DVD. The CD/DVD status will display in the radio display. If your vehicle is equipped with a Family Entertainment System (FES) please refer to the DVD supplement for further information.

To save satellite channels in your memory presets, tune to the desired channel then press and hold a preset control until sound returns.     Entertainment Systems Auxiliary input jack Your vehicle is equipped with an Auxiliary Input Jack (AIJ). The Auxiliary Input Jack provides a way to connect your portable music player to the in-vehicle audio system. This allows the audio from a portable music player to be played through the vehicle speakers with high fidelity.
  • Page 38 Entertainment Systems Troubleshooting: 1. Do not connect the audio input jack to a line level output. Line level outputs are intended for connection to a home stereo and are not compatible with the AIJ. The AIJ will only work correctly with devices that have a headphone output with a volume control.
  • Page 39 Due to technical incompatibility, certain recordable and re-recordable compact discs may not function correctly when used in Ford CD players. Dirty, warped or damaged CDs, irregular shaped CDs, CDs with a scratch protection film attached, and CDs with homemade paper (adhesive) labels should not be inserted into the CD player.

    Climate Controls MANUAL HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED) 1. Temperature selection: Controls the temperature of the airflow in the vehicle. 2. Air flow selections: Controls the direction of the airflow in the vehicle. See the following for a brief description on each control.

    Climate Controls Do not place objects on top of the instrument panel as these objects may become projectiles in a collision or sudden stop. AUXILIARY SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED) Your vehicle may be equipped with an auxiliary climate system. These auxiliary controls, located in the overhead console, allow the front passengers to control airflow direction, temperature and fan level of the rear compartment to quickly heat or cool the entire vehicle.

    Climate Controls REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER The rear defroster control is located on the instrument panel. Press the rear defroster control to clear the rear window of thin ice and fog. • A small LED will illuminate when the rear defroster is activated. The ignition must be in the 3 (ON) position to operate the rear window defroster.

    Driver Controls Cigar/Cigarette lighter (if equipped) Do not plug optional electrical accessories into the cigarette lighter socket. Do not hold the lighter in with your hand while it is heating, this will damage the lighter element and socket. The lighter will be released from its heating position when it is ready to be used.

    Driver Controls POWER ADJUSTABLE FOOT PEDALS (IF EQUIPPED) The accelerator and brake pedal should only be adjusted when the vehicle is stopped and the gearshift lever is in the P (Park) position. Press and hold the rocker control to adjust accelerator and brake pedal toward you or away from you.

The remote entry lock/unlock feature operates in any ignition position. The liftgate glass feature operates as long as the vehicle’s speed is less than 3 mph (5 km/h).

If your battery has a cover/shield, make sure it is reinstalled after the battery has been cleaned or replaced. For longer, trouble-free operation, keep the top of the battery clean and dry.

    Maintenance and Specifications Oil overheat can be triggered in severe driving conditions, such as towing heavy loads over mountainous terrain in extreme hot temperatures. As oil temperature increases, engine and vehicle speed will be limited. The transmission will also shift differently. When the engine oil has cooled, the vehicle will perform normally.

If the fuel filler cap is venting vapor or if you hear a hissing sound, wait until it stops before completely removing the fuel filler cap. Otherwise, fuel may spray out and injure you or others. If you do not use the proper fuel filler cap, excessive vacuum in the fuel tank may damage the fuel system or cause the fuel cap to disengage in a collision, which may result in possible personal injury.
